THE CHALLENGE

TEAL had built a fundamentally different business model in a traditionally transactional industry — but their brand and website didn’t reflect that difference.

They were facing several challenges at once:

  • Their Mechanical-System-as-a-Service (MSaaS) model was unfamiliar to the market
  • Messaging struggled to clearly explain how they were different and why it mattered
  • The existing visual identity felt dated and undercut credibility
  • Marketing materials lacked cohesion across touchpoints
  • The website wasn’t effectively driving contact or supporting sales conversations

In short, TEAL had outgrown their brand — at the exact moment clarity and trust mattered most.

INSIGHT

During research and discovery, a clear pattern emerged.

While TEAL’s technology and delivery model were innovative, what clients consistently emphasized was the people behind the system. In an industry dominated by one-time transactions, TEAL operated as an ongoing partner — monitoring performance, maintaining uptime, and staying accountable long after installation.

This insight reframed the entire problem:

TEAL wasn’t just selling mechanical systems.
They were humanizing infrastructure through a service-driven, people-first model.

That idea became the north star for both positioning and design.

STRATEGY

The goal wasn’t to “refresh” the brand — it was to build a system capable of explaining a new category and scaling with the business.

The strategy focused on three priorities:

  1. Clarify the category
Make Mechanical-System-as-a-Service understandable without oversimplifying it.
  2. Signal credibility and maturity
Elevate the brand to match TEAL’s growth stage and ambition.
  3. Design for consistency at scale
Ensure every touchpoint — web, sales, culture, and marketing — told the same story.

Rather than relying on surface-level aesthetics, the work centered on alignment between insight, messaging, and execution.

EXECUTION
→ BRAND SYSTEM

The visual identity was evolved rather than replaced, respecting leadership’s attachment to the existing logo while modernizing how the brand showed up everywhere else.

Key components included:

  • Refined typography to establish a more modern, confident tone
  • Expanded color system beyond teal to support hierarchy and usability
  • Custom iconography and patterns to distinguish individual solutions
  • Textures inspired by the built environment to ground the brand in its context

Each of TEAL’s solutions was given its own visual treatment, reinforcing clarity while maintaining cohesion across the system.

EXECUTION
→ WEBSITE

The website was re-architected to do two things well:

  • Clearly explain TEAL’s MSaaS model
  • Drive meaningful contact with the sales team

Work included:

  • Research-informed sitemap and wireframes
  • Messaging structure that balanced technical clarity with approachability
  • Design focused on credibility, clarity, and conversion

Secondary goals such as recruiting and thought leadership were supported without distracting from the primary business objective.

EXECUTION
→ GO-TO-MARKET MATERIALS

To ensure consistency beyond the website, the brand system was extended into a full set of supporting materials:

  • Sales brochures and service overviews
  • Business stationery and templates
  • Web and social graphics
  • A printed culture book used internally to reinforce values and alignment

Each deliverable was designed as part of a larger system — not as a standalone asset.

OUTCOMES

The engagement evolved from an initial brand and website redesign into a broader six-figure creative partnership spanning sales, marketing, recruiting, and internal culture initiatives.

The resulting system helped TEAL:

  • More clearly communicate its Mechanical-System-as-a-Service model to prospective customers
  • Align sales and marketing materials around a unified narrative
  • Establish a more mature and credible market presence
  • Create scalable brand foundations used across web, collateral, recruiting, and internal communications

Most importantly, the work repositioned TEAL from a transactional mechanical provider into a long-term service partner — aligning the brand experience with how the company actually operated.

MY ROLE

I led this engagement end-to-end, spanning strategy through execution.

My responsibilities included:

  • Research and discovery (internal surveys and client interviews)
  • Positioning and messaging collaboration
  • Visual identity evolution and system design
  • Website architecture, wireframes, and design
  • Design direction across all supporting materials
  • Quality control and alignment across teams and deliverables

I collaborated closely with developers and copywriters while owning the overall creative direction, ensuring the final system was cohesive, intentional, and grounded in real business needs.

WHY THIS MATTERS

This project reflects how I approach design internally:

  • Start with insight, not aesthetics
  • Design systems, not one-off deliverables
  • Balance strategy with hands-on execution
  • Build work that scales with the business

TEAL wasn’t just a rebrand — it was an exercise in translating a complex, differentiated business model into something clear, credible, and human.
